As part of their ongoing efforts to scout potential additions to their youth academy, Sunderland, known for their productive academy system, regularly assess talents from various sources to strengthen their squad.

Recent reports confirm that Sunderland recently fielded Ridd as a trialist goalkeeper in a match against Huddersfield Town’s youth team. Ridd, a 19-year-old Welsh talent, currently belongs to Derby County, having joined from Ipswich Town last summer.

Throughout the season, Ridd has gained valuable experience on loan at Mickleover Sports, a team competing in the Southern League Premier Division Central. This exposure to senior football suggests he could be a promising prospect for Sunderland.

Whether Ridd will secure a permanent deal with Sunderland following his trial period remains uncertain. However, his background, which includes stints at Ipswich Town and Derby County, as well as loan spells at clubs like Sudbury United, Bury Town, and Brightlingsea Regent, indicates a breadth of experience at both youth and senior levels.

The fact that Ridd has been allowed to go on trial suggests that he may be departing from Derby County in the upcoming summer transfer window. This trial stint offers him an opportunity to showcase his skills to potential suitors, potentially securing a new club before the expiration of his contract.
