Jimmy Butler’s tenure with the Miami Heat might be coming to an end, and a stunning move to the Golden State Warriors could be on the horizon for the six-time All-Star. If the Heat cannot agree on a contract extension with their star forward, they might be compelled to trade him, with the Warriors emerging as a potential destination should Butler become available.
Golden State Warriors Expected to Join Jimmy Butler Sweepstakes
Currently, the Philadelphia 76ers are seen as the primary contender to lure Butler away from Miami, as they are reportedly ready to offer him the max contract he desires—something the Heat might be unwilling to do.
However, Warriors insider Anthony Slater from The Athletic suggests that Golden State is another team to keep an eye on if Butler hits the trade market:
“If the Heat shop Jimmy Butler, I would expect the Warriors to enter the conversation to at least some degree,” Slater wrote.
It’s uncertain what trade package the Warriors would need to offer to entice the Heat, but it’s clear that Golden State would have to make significant concessions to meet Miami’s potential demands.
Brandon Ingram Not an Option for the Warriors
Meanwhile, New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram has also been mentioned in various trade rumors. However, Slater notes that he “would not expect the Warriors to show interest” if the Pelicans start shopping the former All-Star.
This leaves Ingram off the list of potential targets for the Warriors. Nonetheless, the situation remains fluid, and more trade buzz is expected as the offseason progresses.
