Former Duke guard Jaylen Blakes commits to Stanford

Former Duke men’s basketball guard Jaylen Blakes has officially committed to Stanford, according to a press release from the university on Friday. Blakes is the first graduate transfer to join Stanford under head coach Kyle Smith.

“Jaylen Blakes adds significant value to our team on multiple fronts. His athleticism and backcourt experience will be crucial,” said Smith. “Offensively, he can both score and distribute effectively, using his strength and quickness to penetrate defenses and his shooting ability to keep them honest.” During his time with the Blue Devils, Blakes played in 83 games, averaging 2.2 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. He was recognized as one of the team’s top defensive players last season.

“Defensively, Jaylen brings a tenacious, pit bull mentality,” Smith added. “His ball-guarding skills are essential for establishing a solid defense. His league knowledge and experience will be invaluable as we move into the ACC.”

Blakes was highly ranked among New Jersey’s top high school players in the 2021 class by various recruiting services.

The six-foot-two guard is now the fourth player to transfer to Stanford this offseason.
