UNC Basketball: Vanderbilt Transfer Ven-Allen Lubin Schedules Official Visit

With Cliff Omoruyi’s commitment to Alabama, Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels continue their search to replace Armando Bacot. Although Jalen Washington remains on the team, the frontcourt needs experienced depth, especially with a guard-heavy roster and the likely departure of Harrison Ingram.

Jack Morris identified several potential targets for Carolina, and one of them, Ven-Allen Lubin, has now scheduled an official visit. According to Sherrell McMillan at Inside Carolina, Lubin, a Vanderbilt transfer, wasn’t initially on UNC’s radar as he entered the transfer portal at the last moment. However, following Omoruyi’s decision, the Tar Heels reconsidered and saw Lubin as a good fit.

Lubin logged significant minutes for Jerry Stackhouse’s Vanderbilt team, averaging 28.2 minutes per game. The 6’8” forward shot 50% from the field, 33.3% from three, and averaged 12.3 points and over six rebounds per game. This was a notable improvement from his freshman season, where he played 17.4 minutes and averaged 6.2 points per game.

His progression and experience at the Power Five level make him a promising candidate for Carolina. Though slightly undersized for the center position, his addition would provide Davis with valuable frontcourt options and the ability to rotate Washington. Lubin reached a season-high of 25 points twice in 2024 and scored in double digits 11 times in the last 13 games, recording four double-doubles during that stretch.

Lubin’s visit is scheduled for Tuesday, during a quieter time on campus following commencement. This setting will allow for quality one-on-one time and interaction with any remaining players and recent graduates, highlighting the benefits of playing in Chapel Hill.

This development underscores that while the Tar Heels missed out on some initial targets, there is still ample time and many players available to strengthen their roster. With the current depth in the backcourt, an addition to the frontcourt like Lubin could significantly impact the team.
