Ivan Demidov, a potential pick for the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL amateur draft, suffered a knee injury in April, causing concern among scouts. However, according to Anthony Martineau of TVA Sports, Demidov will not require surgery for the injury and is expected to fully recover before the draft. This speedy rehabilitation could allow him to resume skating activities, benefiting his draft prospects.

Martineau notes that Demidov will have no restrictions on his summer training regimen, facilitating his development. Despite turning down an extension with SKA St-Petersburg in Russia, Demidov’s contract is set to expire after the 2024-25 season, and he aims to transition to North America. The Canadiens have shown interest in Demidov, but unless they improve their draft position, their chances of acquiring him may be limited.

There is speculation about whether the Canadiens should trade their fifth overall pick and potentially a young defenseman for a higher draft position. Alternatively, they may opt to select the best available player with their current pick. In other hockey news, the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Rangers are set to face off in the second round of the playoffs, highlighting the depth of the Hurricanes’ lineup.
