The EFL has announced changes that will affect several clubs including QPR, Charlton Athletic, and Millwall for the final day of the Championship season. Additionally, Watford and Leyton Orient have also been impacted by alterations to their season closer kickoff times. All Championship matches on Saturday, May 4 will now kick off at 12:30, as will all League One fixtures on Saturday, April 27.
This decision, communicated through an official statement from the EFL, has stirred some discontent among football fans, with some expressing disappointment over the lack of consideration for supporters. QPR, Charlton Athletic, and Millwall will all be playing away on the final day of the season. QPR will face Coventry City, while Millwall will travel to Swansea City. Watford’s trip to Middlesbrough will also be affected by the earlier kickoff time.
In response to the schedule change, QPR released a statement confirming the adjustment to their final fixture, emphasizing that the date remains unchanged. Charlton Athletic will face Wycombe Wanderers, and Leyton Orient will take on Shrewsbury Town on the last day in League One.
Despite the reshuffling of kickoff times, none of the London clubs in either the Championship or League One appear to be strong contenders for the playoffs, with Leyton Orient being the closest to potentially securing a spot at Wembley Stadium. The Championship Play-Off Final is scheduled for Sunday, May 26, while the League One Play-Off Final will take place on Saturday, May 18.
LondonWorld has reached out to the EFL for a statement regarding the adjustments to the final day kickoff times.
