The Baltimore Ravens stunned the NFL world with the announcement that they are releasing longtime kicker Justin Tucker, a seven-time Pro Bowler and one of the most accurate in league history. The news came via a statement from general manager Eric DeCosta, who called the decision “incredibly difficult” but necessary given the current state of the team’s roster.

Baltimore Ravens place kicker Justin Tucker (9)

DeCosta praised Tucker’s contributions, citing his consistency, talent, and role in countless memorable moments over more than a decade with the franchise. Despite the praise, the Ravens are officially moving forward without him, having drafted Arizona kicker Tyler Loop in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Fans reacted with disbelief and skepticism, with many questioning the timing and sincerity of calling the move strictly a “football decision.” This skepticism is fueled by the fact that Tucker is currently under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct involving massage therapists in the Baltimore area — an issue the Ravens have declined to comment on directly.

Head coach John Harbaugh emphasized that the organization has not received any formal updates on the investigation and insists all decisions are based purely on football-related factors such as performance, salary cap considerations, and future planning.

The situation leaves many wondering whether the decision was truly about football — or something more.
