Trevon Diggs, a standout cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys and a two-time Pro Bowler, has missed a significant number of games recently due to injury — 21 in the last two seasons. While rehabbing under new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer’s regime, the Cowboys’ recent draft of cornerback Shavon Revel Jr., considered a potential first-round talent if not for his own ACL injury, is raising eyebrows and sparking speculation that Diggs’ time in Dallas could be limited.
A trade rumor has surfaced linking Diggs to the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the logic behind it seems shaky, especially given claims that Diggs “won’t make much of a difference” — raising questions about why a team like Kansas City would take on a high-risk, high-cost player.
From a financial standpoint, Diggs’ $97 million contract contains no guaranteed money after the 2025 season, giving Dallas flexibility to release him and save $12 million. Some argue trading him now could free up cap space to extend stars like Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland. But the Cowboys don’t necessarily need that space, and cutting or trading Diggs now only nets them a modest $7 million in savings — while losing a potential defensive asset.
Ultimately, the rumor appears questionable. With Diggs’ injury history and large contract, it’s unclear why any team — especially a contending one like the Chiefs — would trade for a cornerback who might not even be fully available in 2025.
