Duke Men’s Basketball Forward TJ Power Transfers to Virginia

After entering the transfer portal in April, freshman forward TJ Power announced on Instagram his commitment to Virginia. During his time with the Blue Devils, the Shrewsbury, Mass., native saw limited action, averaging 6.7 minutes and 2.1 points per game, with shooting percentages of 33.3% from the field and 35.7% from three-point range across 26 games last season.

Despite modest statistics, many fans believed the 6-foot-9 forward had the potential to become a key player for Duke over four years. Known for his excellent three-point shooting, Power is expected to improve with more playing time and further adjustment to the college level. His standout performance came early in the season against La Salle, where he scored nine points in five minutes, hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Power’s departure is surprising given his brief stint at Duke and his potential. However, with head coach Jon Scheyer’s highly talented incoming recruiting class, including top recruit Cooper Flagg, Power likely sought a better opportunity for consistent playing time. He will face Duke next season when Virginia hosts the Blue Devils at John Paul Jones Arena.
