Analyst Suggests Cowboys Might Consider $150 Million QB as Potential Dak Stand-In

With Dak Prescott’s contract nearing its end, the Cowboys are facing the possibility of him leaving, despite their desire to keep him. KD Drummond from Cowboys Wire suggests several quarterback options if Prescott departs, one being Derek Carr of the New Orleans Saints. While Carr is currently under contract until 2026, the Saints could release him in 2025, creating an opportunity for the Cowboys. Carr could serve as a temporary solution until they secure their next franchise quarterback.

Carr, a seasoned quarterback, has had a consistent career statistically but has struggled to lead his teams to significant victories. Although he’s been a four-time Pro Bowler, his playoff success is notably lacking—he’s yet to secure a postseason win.

In his recent season with the Saints, Carr maintained his typical performance level but fell short of leading his team to the playoffs, finishing with a 9-8 record.

Despite other potential options like Tua Tagovailoa, Carr could emerge as the best immediate choice for the Cowboys if they lose Prescott. With impressive career stats, including high passing yards and touchdowns, Carr brings experience and skill that could complement the Cowboys’ offensive talent, particularly receiver CeeDee Lamb. While Carr’s acquisition may not spark excitement, his veteran presence could still be valuable to the team.
