Napoli are edging closer to securing the signing of Lille striker Jonathan David, despite AC Milan’s persistent interest in the Canadian forward over recent seasons.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli have identified David as the potential replacement for Victor Osimhen, who could depart the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.

After evaluating several targets, Napoli have initiated serious negotiations with both Lille and David’s representatives, signaling their determination to finalize the deal.

Lille has set an asking price of €50 million for David, but Napoli has thus far been reluctant to exceed €35 million, supplemented by performance-related bonuses. With David’s contract expiring in 2025, Lille’s bargaining position is somewhat limited.

David is reportedly enthusiastic about joining Napoli, having been convinced by the club’s project. Napoli is also prepared to offer him a five-year contract with an annual salary of €3 million. However, details such as a release clause and image rights, which often complicate modern transfers, have yet to be discussed.

While David has long been on Milan’s radar as a striking option, he is seen as a financially viable alternative compared to players like Joshua Zirkzee and Viktor Gyokeres.
