Nikola Jokic, the standout player for the Denver Nuggets, has revealed his desire to team up with a former NBA player whom he admires. At NBA All-Star Weekend, Jokic expressed his admiration for the opportunity to play alongside Peja Stojakovic, emphasizing how he believes Stojakovic’s skills would excel in today’s NBA landscape, as conveyed to reporters.
Despite their respective careers, Jokic and Stojakovic never had the chance to share the court in the NBA. Stojakovic concluded his NBA tenure after the 2010-11 season, boasting an impressive career spanning nearly 15 years with stints at the New Orleans Hornets, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors, and Dallas Mavericks. Throughout his career, Stojakovic averaged 17 points per game across 804 appearances, securing an NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011 and earning three consecutive All-Star selections from 2002 to 2004.
Since joining the Nuggets in 2015, Jokic has risen to prominence as one of the NBA’s premier talents, guiding the Nuggets to an NBA championship in 2023 and earning the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player award that season. Despite being a second-round draft pick, Jokic has garnered recognition as the NBA’s Most Valuable Player twice and has secured six NBA All-Star appearances, including the 2024 All-Star game where he will feature as a starter for the Western Conference team. With impressive season averages of 26 points and 12 rebounds, Jokic continues to showcase his exceptional talent.
While it remains a missed opportunity to witness the dynamic duo of Jokic and Stojakovic in action for the Nuggets, their partnership remains a fantasy in the realm of NBA basketball. The 2024 All-Star game is scheduled to commence at 8:00 Eastern on Sunday, providing fans with an exciting showcase of elite basketball talent.
