Lakers Updates: LA Contemplating Trade for Three Role Players from the Eastern Conference

With the NBA’s trade deadline just around the corner on February 8th, the Los Angeles Lakers find themselves actively involved in the discussions. The question remains: will the Lakers make a move or maintain their current roster? As of January 31st, with a record of 24-25, it’s evident that the Lakers need to make strategic moves to position themselves as championship contenders once again. While this may not happen overnight, history has shown the positive impact of assembling the right pieces around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. A trade seems increasingly likely.

According to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania on Wednesday, the Lakers have expressed “interest” in acquiring Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie, along with wing players Dorian Finney-Smith and Royce O’Neale. The Lakers began the 2023-2024 season with aspirations of winning the championship but currently find themselves one game below .500 and in the play-in tournament position. It is apparent that a trade is necessary to address their shortcomings.

Charania highlights that Dinwiddie, Finney-Smith, and O’Neale could offer the Lakers valuable assets, particularly in terms of perimeter defense and shooting. Finney-Smith and O’Neale bring defensive prowess and occasional scoring, while Dinwiddie remains a top-tier player known for his ability to create shots and playmaking skills. Additionally, Charania suggests the possibility of acquiring Atlanta Hawks combo guard Dejounte Murray, who has notably impressed with his performance against the Lakers, leaving fans eager for the front office to bring his talents to the West Coast.
