The Boston Celtics have spent most of their offseason offloading key players rather than adding new talent. However, one notable addition is guard Anfernee Simons, acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers in the Jrue Holiday trade.

Selected 24th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, Simons has developed into a versatile scorer with the ability to generate offense at all levels. He posted averages of 19.3 points, 4.8 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game last season while shooting 42.6% from the field.

With the departures of Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kornet, and the possible retirement of Al Horford, the Celtics are counting on Simons to step up offensively. The challenge is even greater with Jayson Tatum expected to miss most of the upcoming season due to an Achilles injury sustained during the playoffs.

To thrive in Boston, Simons must improve his shooting efficiency and perimeter defense. He’s already putting in the work, committing to a “no days off” approach as he prepares for the season.

“‘No days off’ means using every day as a chance to get better,” Simons said in the NBA’s “No Days Off” series. “It’s not just about working hard it’s about being intentional with how you train.”

While the Celtics continue to trim payroll to stay under the NBA’s new salary cap threshold, Simons’ future in Boston isn’t set in stone. Still, if he stays, he’s determined to make the most of the opportunity and elevate his game.
