After missing over a year due to Tommy John surgery in May 2024, Atlanta Braves sixth-ranked prospect Owen Murphy has returned with dominant form, quickly reminding fans why he was the team’s 2022 first-round pick.
During his absence, other young pitchers like Didier Fuentes and Cam Caminiti emerged, but Murphy has wasted no time reclaiming attention. Since rejoining High-A Rome, he has struck out 18 of the 36 batters he’s faced, allowed only three baserunners, and posted a remarkable 0.26 WHIP.
Known for his sharp breaking pitches and precise fastball command rather than overpowering velocity, Murphy’s stuff looks as crisp as ever. His latest outing five no-hit innings with five strikeouts and one walk against Greenville extended his scoreless streak to more than 11 innings.
This performance echoes his pre-injury dominance in early 2024, when he led the South Atlantic League with 60 strikeouts in 41 innings. If Murphy stays healthy and maintains this level of play, he could be on track for a Double-A promotion in 2026.
