Rangers-Conor-Coady

Conor Coady is set to undergo a medical as part of a transfer move amid recent Rangers speculation.

Although Rangers have already added Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez to their defense this summer, they remain interested in further reinforcements following the departures of Leon Balogun and Robin Propper, which left a gap in experience.

However, Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph reported on August 1 that Wrexham have agreed a £2 million fee with Leicester City for Coady. The defender is scheduled to travel to Wales on Friday to complete his medical and finalize the transfer.

Rangers Miss Out on Coady, Lose Key Defensive Option to Wrexham

Rangers may regret missing out on Conor Coady, as the veteran defender would have been a valuable addition under manager Michael Martin. At 32, Coady’s wealth of experience including nearly 200 Premier League appearances would have brought leadership, composure, and tactical flexibility to Ibrox.

Despite recent signings Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez, the loss of Leon Balogun and Robin Propper created a leadership gap in defense that Coady was well-suited to fill. His ability to operate in a back three and his calmness on the ball would have aligned well with Martin’s style of play.

Coady’s impressive resume includes:

  • Wolves: 317 appearances, 7 goals
  • Sheffield United: 50 appearances, 6 goals
  • Huddersfield: 48 appearances, 3 goals
  • Leicester: 43 appearances, 2 goals
  • Everton: 25 appearances, 2 goals
  • Liverpool: 2 appearancesRangers Mikey Moore

Notably, he captained Wolves during their back-to-back seventh-place Premier League finishes and their run to the Europa League quarterfinals.

With Wrexham securing his signature, Martin must now identify another defender of similar quality to reinforce the backline and keep Rangers competitive in both domestic and European competitions.
