The Seattle Seahawks have signed former Auburn and NC State safety Donovan “DK” Kaufman but not to play defense. Instead, Kaufman is joining the team as a running back.

Kaufman, who spent three seasons at Auburn playing safety and nickel back after a brief stint at Vanderbilt in 2020, wrapped up his college career at NC State in 2024. Although he participated in Seattle’s rookie minicamp in May on a tryout basis, he was not initially offered a contract.

However, with running back Kenny McIntosh placed on injured reserve Monday due to a torn ACL suffered during training camp, the Seahawks revisited Kaufman and brought him in to compete this time on offense.

Auburn safety Donovan “DK” Kaufman tackles Georgia tight end Brock Bowers during an SEC game on Sept. 30, 2023, at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn.

Now in the mix for the No. 3 running back role and a spot as a kickoff returner, Kaufman brings special teams experience with him, having averaged 31.3 yards on 13 kickoff returns last season at NC State.

Seattle officially began training camp on Wednesday and kicks off its preseason slate on August 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
