Charles Bassey made a strong impression during his brief three game stint with the Boston Celtics in Summer League, leading some fans to hope he’d earn a roster spot. However, it appears the big man is now close to signing with a team overseas.

According to Bassey’s agent, Mark McNeil, Serbian club Partizan Belgrade has expressed strong interest and remains the top option for his next move. The same team recently signed ex-Lakers guard Shake Milton following his release from Los Angeles.

Despite being a late addition to the Celtics’ Summer League roster and departing early due to other commitments, Bassey made his presence felt, averaging 15.3 points and 11.0 rebounds in just three games.

Although Boston still has an open roster spot after waiving JD Davison and remains below the second salary cap apron, it looks unlikely that Bassey will return to the NBA next season. With limited frontcourt depth, some fans saw him as a potential fit for the Celtics, but overseas opportunities now seem more promising.

Bassey

The 24-year-old Bassey has played in 113 NBA games, spending one season with the Philadelphia 76ers and the last three with the San Antonio Spurs, posting career averages of 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds. Known for his physicality and presence in the paint, it’s no surprise he’s drawing attention internationally. If no NBA contract materializes, all signs point to Bassey continuing his professional career abroad.
