Rangers are reportedly willing to spend big in this summer’s transfer window as manager Russell Martin looks to strengthen his squad ahead of his first full Scottish Premiership campaign in charge. While there had been previous links to Bournemouth’s David Brooks, interest in the winger appears to have cooled with other targets now in focus.
With Rangers set to open their league season against Motherwell on 2 August, securing a new winger quickly is a top priority. The team made a strong start to their Champions League qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win over Panathinaikos in the first leg on 22 July.
One player on their radar is Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who impressed during his loan spell at Sheffield United last season. A move to Rangers on loan is being considered, and reports from Alan Nixon (ReluctantNicko via Patreon, 27 July) suggest the 22-year-old is open to a move to Ibrox.
Martin had to rely on young winger Findlay Curtis in the Champions League match against Panathinaikos. While Curtis found the net with a superb goal, Rangers’ lack of depth out wide remains a concern if they hope to compete with Celtic in the title race.
Rak-Sakyi’s 2024/25 Championship Stats:
- Appearances: 34
- Starts: 22
- Goals: 7
- Assists: 2
Rak-Sakyi’s performance at Sheffield United caught attention, and if Rangers were to sign him permanently at a reported value of £10 million it would be one of the club’s biggest transfers in decades. That fee would come close to the record £12 million paid for Tore Andre Flo in 2000, making Rak-Sakyi potentially their most expensive signing in over 20 years.
