Newcastle United are showing interest in signing England Under-21 star Harvey Elliott, with a potential £40 million deal reportedly on the table.

Despite a relatively quiet start to the summer transfer window, Newcastle’s recent recruitment record has impressed fans bringing in talents like Alexander Isak, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, and Tino Livramento. However, unsuccessful moves for Joao Pedro and Liam Delap have raised concerns about the club’s ability to secure domestic talent, prompting some to suggest looking abroad.

Still, Eddie Howe appears focused on the Premier League, with talkSPORT reporting that Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott is a top target. The 21-year-old recently earned Player of the Tournament honors at the U-21 EUROs after scoring five goals, following in the footsteps of Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, who won the same award in 2023.

Elliott is attracting attention from clubs across Europe, including RB Leipzig, a popular destination for young English players seeking regular game time. With Liverpool’s midfield depth and rising stars like Florian Wirtz limiting Elliott’s opportunities, the player is believed to be open to a move in search of more consistent minutes.

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, now working as RB Leipzig’s Head of Global Soccer, has publicly expressed regret about not giving Elliott more game time. His Merseyside connections could aid Leipzig’s chances of securing a deal.

Reports suggest a £40 million offer for Elliott might include a significant sell-on clause, while a bid closer to £50 million could reduce or remove that clause.

Meanwhile, speculation continues about Liverpool’s interest in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. Some believe Elliott could be used in negotiations as part of a player-plus-cash deal similar to past talks involving Jarrel Quansah, Joe Gomez, and Anthony Gordon. However, given Isak’s importance to Newcastle, any deal would require a substantial additional fee on top of Elliott.

Lastly, there’s a tactical consideration while Elliott has played on the right wing, it remains to be seen whether he fits seamlessly into Howe’s system.
