As Newcastle United continue their pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga, one of their alternative targets has officially ruled out a move.
While Elanga remains Eddie Howe’s top priority, Newcastle have been keeping tabs on other wingers, including Mohammed Kudus who is also being monitored by Tottenham and Chelsea making a Tyneside switch for the Ghanaian unlikely.
Another name of interest has been Antoine Semenyo, who impressed last season with 13 goals and seven assists for Bournemouth. However, with the Cherries valuing the 25-year-old at £70 million, a transfer always seemed out of reach for Newcastle.
Now, that possibility is even more remote. On Tuesday evening, Bournemouth announced that Semenyo has signed a new contract extending his stay until 2030. Speaking to the club’s official website, Semenyo expressed his commitment to staying, stating:
“I’ve grown so much at the club, both on and off the pitch, and I’m really happy to have signed ahead of returning for pre-season. From the fans to the staff and my teammates, I can’t speak highly enough of the people around the club. It’s a great place to be and I’m excited to get back to Bournemouth and continue the hard work with the new season just around the corner.”
His remarks strongly suggest that a summer move to Newcastle or anywhere else is now off the table.
