Joe Rothwell is on the verge of becoming Rangers’ second summer signing, reuniting with manager Michael Beale after a previous loan stint under him at Southampton during the 2023/24 season.
The 30-year-old midfielder, who was on loan at Leeds United last season and is known for his set-piece abilities, is expected to join Rangers on a two-year deal following an agreement with Bournemouth.
Talks regarding Rothwell’s move have been ongoing since discussions began for Max Aarons, who has already joined Rangers on loan from Bournemouth as the club’s first summer signing.
According to The Herald Sport (2 July, page 2), Rothwell’s transfer is set to be a permanent one. This development follows Kevin Thelwell’s comments from 2 June, where he revealed that transfer plans had been in motion even before his official start at the club. He emphasized that securing a new head coach was a key priority as part of the ongoing background work.
