The Chicago Bears have several players nearing the end of their contracts, but one extension stands out as a priority ahead of the 2025 season: safety Jaquan Brisker.
Brisker is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is set to earn a base salary of $3.4 million next season, per Spotrac. Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton identified Brisker as the Bears’ top candidate for an extension before the new season kicks off. However, his injury last year may be the reason talks haven’t progressed.
“Chicago may have extended Brisker already if he had remained healthy through 2024,” Moton noted. “He was off to another strong start before a season-ending concussion in Week 5. In just five games, he recorded 40 tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack, an interception, and a forced fumble, while holding quarterbacks to a 71.5 passer rating.”
Will the Bears Lock Him In Soon?
Had Brisker not suffered that concussion, he was on pace for his third straight 100-tackle season and what likely would have been his most productive year yet making him a strong candidate for an immediate extension.
Now, the timing of a potential deal may shift to training camp or post-season. General manager Ryan Poles has a window to strike early, which could help the team negotiate a more favorable contract. Waiting until the offseason, however, could increase Brisker’s market value if he bounces back with a strong year possibly leading to a bidding war.
With Jaylon Johnson, Tyrique Stevenson, and Kevin Byard III already anchoring the secondary, the Bears need to retain as much young defensive talent as possible. At just 26 years old, Brisker is a key piece of the defense and viewed as a foundational player for the future.
While an extension seems likely, Chicago must act sooner rather than later to lock down one of the league’s top young safeties before his price tag rises.
