Auburn football added to its 2026 recruiting class over the weekend, securing a commitment from 3-star running back Eric Perry. The Tigers hosted nearly ten recruits for official visits, and Perry, from Southaven, Mississippi, became the latest to pledge to the program.

Rated as the No. 87 athlete in the 2026 class and the No. 36 prospect in Mississippi, Perry plays quarterback for DeSoto Central High School. However, Auburn recruited him as a running back, with offensive coordinator Derrick Nix playing a major role in the process.

“Coach Nix was really the main reason,” Perry said. “He kept calling, breaking down my film, and I could tell he genuinely wanted me here. I believed everything he was saying.”

DeSoto Central’s Eric Perry (1) stiff arms Houston’s Ben Killebrew (8) as he runs with the ball during the game between Houston High School and DeSoto Central High School in Southaven, Miss., on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

Perry first visited Auburn earlier this spring and picked up his second Power Four offer. After this weekend’s visit, he was ready to commit.

“I wanted to compete at the highest level in the SEC,” Perry explained. “This was really where I wanted to be. My cousin played at Mississippi State, so I saw that as the standard.”

Perry becomes Auburn’s eighth commitment for 2026 and the first running back in the class, which currently ranks 35th nationally.
