Jaire Alexander’s time with the Green Bay Packers officially ended yesterday, following unsuccessful attempts by the team to trade him. One of the interested teams was the Buffalo Bills, according to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, who reports that Buffalo and Green Bay explored a potential deal earlier this offseason. However, no agreement was reached, likely due to the financial complexities of Alexander’s contract.

Buffalo had prioritized strengthening their cornerback group this offseason. They extended Christian Benford and used their first-round pick on Kentucky’s Maxwell Hairston, who’s expected to start alongside Benford and Taron Johnson in 2025. Though Alexander would have added a top-tier presence at cornerback, his recent injury history missing 10 games in each of the last two seasons raised concerns among potential trade partners.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Packers initially tried to trade Alexander in March, even making those efforts public before free agency began. When that didn’t work out, they renewed attempts during the draft. Still, no offer met their expectations. The team then explored a possible contract restructure, but that too fell through.

Now a free agent, Alexander is drawing significant attention. Josina Anderson of The Exhibit reports that six teams quickly reached out after his release. Without the need to trade draft picks or take on his hefty contract, more teams are expected to enter the mix. It’s not yet known if the Bills are among them, but given their earlier interest, a renewed pursuit wouldn’t be surprising.

Previously earning $21 million annually, Alexander is likely to sign a more modest deal this summer. As teams assess their rosters, it remains to be seen where the former Pro Bowler will land next.
