The Los Angeles Rams are still looking to bolster their roster, especially at cornerback which has led to rising speculation about a potential reunion with Miami Dolphins star Jalen Ramsey.
According to ESPN’s Matt Bowen, while Ramsey may not be the elite shutdown corner he once was, he still offers valuable skills that make the Rams an ideal trade partner. Bowen pointed out Ramsey’s continued ability to cover deep routes and read plays in zone coverage. His versatility including his potential to contribute in nickel packages would immediately improve L.A.’s secondary.
Bowen also noted that the Rams wouldn’t need to give up nearly as much as they did in 2019 when they traded two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder to acquire Ramsey from Jacksonville. In contrast, Miami only received a third-rounder and a depth player when the Rams sent him to the Dolphins in 2023.
In 2024, Ramsey remained productive for Miami, recording 60 tackles (six for loss), 11 pass breakups, two interceptions, and a sack. His football intelligence and adaptability continue to impress coaches, including former Rams assistant Ejiro Evero. Now the Panthers’ defensive coordinator, Evero praised Ramsey for his deep understanding of offensive schemes and positional flexibility, calling him one of the smartest players he’s ever coached.
Ramsey appreciated the comments, replying on X (formerly Twitter) with praise for Evero, calling him a “real ball coach” and predicting he’ll become a head coach.
As for the Rams’ current stance, head coach Sean McVay didn’t rule out the idea of bringing Ramsey back, saying in April, “You would certainly never rule out the possibility of that,” though he acknowledged there would be complexities to navigate given Ramsey’s stature and contract.

General Manager Les Snead also confirmed recent talks with the Dolphins, although he didn’t specify whether Ramsey was discussed. With post-draft roster movement heating up, ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggested on NFL Live that a trade involving Ramsey possibly to the Rams is likely to occur in early June, when the salary cap impact would be easier to manage.
Ramsey is in the final year of his five-year, $100 million deal and is set to begin a three-year, $72.3 million extension in 2026.
