Denver Broncos linebacker Dre Greenlaw offered a short but heartfelt message to his former teammate, quarterback Brock Purdy, after Purdy signed a massive five-year, $265 million extension with the San Francisco 49ers — the richest deal in franchise history. Greenlaw took to Instagram, posting “Congrats brotha 💪” in response to the news.

Greenlaw joined the Broncos this offseason after four seasons with the 49ers, where he became a key piece of their defense. His departure, along with that of safety Talanoa Hufanga, opened cap space for San Francisco to lock down Purdy long-term.

Meanwhile, in Denver, the Broncos are building around rookie quarterback Bo Nix, their 2024 first-round pick. With Nix on a rookie deal, the team has invested heavily in other areas, including signing Greenlaw and Hufanga. The Broncos won’t need to revisit Nix’s contract situation until at least 2028, and possibly as late as 2032 with options and tags.

Hufanga and Greenlaw both cited Bo Nix as a major reason they chose to join the Broncos. On the DNVR Broncos Podcast, Hufanga praised Nix for proving doubters wrong and showing he can lead the team. The two defenders believed in his ability to keep the offense moving — a key reason for their decision to come to Denver and contribute to a potential culture shift.

Nix has also been active in welcoming new teammates. According to reporter Zac Stevens, he reached out to every Broncos draft pick after they were selected — a move praised by players and coaches as a sign of leadership.

Veteran tight end Evan Engram, another key free agent signing, spoke highly of Nix’s poise in the pocket and playmaking ability under pressure. Engram called him a “true weapon” and emphasized the importance of surrounding him with talent.

In total, the Broncos spent over $113 million in free agency this offseason, including more than $60 million guaranteed, ranking them in the top half of the league for spending. Head coach Sean Payton said their moves — including the surprise selection of cornerback Jahdae Barron in the first round — were all designed to support their young quarterback through a strong defense and balanced offense.

As the 2025 season approaches, former Broncos star Chris Harris Jr. believes Denver could field the NFL’s top defense, giving Bo Nix the foundation he needs to thrive.
