After acquiring wide receiver George Pickens, the Dallas Cowboys might be preparing to trade Jalen Tolbert ahead of the 2025 NFL season. According to USA Today’s K.D. Drummond, the recent shakeups in Dallas’ receiving corps could hint that Tolbert, a 2022 third-round pick, may be on the trade block.
Tolbert had slow starts in his first two NFL seasons, with only 22 receptions for 268 yards and two touchdowns in 2023. He showed significant improvement last year, finishing with 49 catches for 610 yards and 7 touchdowns. Still, with his rookie contract expiring and no long-term deal yet in place, the Cowboys may be open to offers.
The Cowboys previously brought in Jonathan Mingo for depth, though he’s yet to live up to expectations. If Mingo impresses in 2025 and Tolbert doesn’t take another step forward, Dallas could more seriously consider moving him. While Tolbert has flashed potential, his future with the team remains uncertain, especially with the team potentially looking to recoup value through a Day 3 draft pick if their season falters.
Five Teams That Could Be a Landing Spot for Jalen Tolbert
- Los Angeles Chargers
With Mike Williams nearing the end of his prime and Quentin Johnston underwhelming, the Chargers could use Tolbert as a high-upside option for Justin Herbert. He’d join rookies Tre Harris and Ladd McConkey in rebuilding the receiver group. - New Orleans Saints
If Chris Olave requests a trade and with Derek Carr’s uncertain future, the Saints may seek reliable receiving help. A reunion between Tolbert and new OC Kellen Moore could bring stability and familiarity to a shaky offense. - Carolina Panthers
The Panthers are revamping their receiving corps with Tetairoa McMillian and have question marks beyond veteran Adam Thielen. Tolbert could be a solid addition to support Bryce Young alongside promising names like Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker. - Jacksonville Jaguars
With Gabe Davis gone, Jacksonville needs a WR3 to complement Travis Hunter and Brian Thomas Jr. Tolbert could be a great situational weapon for Trevor Lawrence, potentially teaming up with Dyami Brown for speed-based plays. - Buffalo Bills
Still in need of wide receiver depth, Buffalo could look at Tolbert to enhance their offense. While Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and Joshua Palmer are expected starters, Tolbert could give them an edge in the crowded AFC.
