Marco Landucci, who stood in for the suspended Massimiliano Allegri during Milan’s 3-0 Coppa Italia win over Lecce, remarked that while the team performed well, especially in the first half, they still had room to improve. He lightheartedly added that he needs to make sure Allegri avoids further suspensions going forward. Milan’s convincing victory at San Siro was secured with goals from Santiago Gimenez, Christopher Nkunku, and Christian Pulisic, aided by Lecce being reduced to 10 men after Siebert was sent off in the 18th minute.
Landucci: Milan Happy with Win, But First-Half Display Could’ve Been Sharper
Marco Landucci, who stepped in for the suspended Massimiliano Allegri during Milan’s 3-0 Coppa Italia win over Lecce, praised striker Santiago Gimenez for scoring his first official goal of the season, saying it’s always encouraging when a forward finds the net. While he acknowledged Gimenez has consistently performed well, Landucci believes the team could have delivered a stronger showing in the first half.
“We started a bit sluggishly and only picked up after Lecce went down to 10 men,” he told Italia 1. “We improved in the second half, but should’ve done more earlier. Still, the objective was to progress, and we’re satisfied with the result.”
Asked about Milan’s ambitions for the 2025–26 season, Landucci emphasized the importance of staying grounded. “Having targets is key, but we need to approach things one match at a time. I’m pleased with the group’s mentality they’re focused and hardworking, but we must keep evolving.”
Looking ahead to the weekend’s Serie A clash with Napoli, he acknowledged the challenge: “They’re a top team and have reinforced even more this year. It’s the kind of game every player wants to be part of.”
As for Allegri, who watched from the stands, Landucci jokingly added: “I need to make sure he’s more careful he’s the head coach, and it’s important he’s there with us on the bench.”
