The Philadelphia Phillies, one of baseball’s top teams this season, may still look to add star power despite their success. With MVP contender Kyle Schwarber possibly hitting free agency, the team might seek a powerful bat to fill his potential vacancy.

Jake Elman of Fansided predicts the Phillies could target five-time All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso from the New York Mets. Although Bryce Harper currently plays first base, the Phillies could move him to a full-time designated hitter role if Schwarber departs. Elman suggests the team might even rotate Alonso and Harper in a setup similar to how the Yankees use Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

This season, Alonso has posted solid numbers with a .270 batting average, 36 home runs, and 119 RBIs. While his production isn’t quite at Schwarber’s level, adding Alonso would still be a significant boost. If Schwarber stays, a lineup featuring Harper, Schwarber, and Alonso would be formidable.

The main obstacle is financial—if the Phillies’ front office is willing to increase spending, a deal could materialize. Otherwise, the team will have to decide whether to retain Schwarber or pursue Alonso instead.
