Rangers are already preparing for life after Russell Martin following a very poor start to the season. Despite publicly expressing support for Martin, club officials have begun quietly exploring potential replacements. This revelation came during tonight’s Hotline Live with Daily Record’s Keith Jackson and Scott McDermott.

The Rangers board is under increasing pressure as Martin’s team has been struggling, having been eliminated from the Champions League and remaining winless in their last five Premiership games after a defeat to Hearts. They currently sit nine points behind rivals Celtic. While the club maintains Martin’s position is secure for now, private talks are underway with possible candidates should the situation deteriorate.

Jackson shared that these contingency plans could come into play as soon as this weekend, especially if Rangers suffer another defeat against Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals. He noted that calls are being made and alternatives discussed in case the club decides to act quickly.

McDermott, who witnessed the tense post-match atmosphere after the Hearts game, wasn’t surprised by the planning. He added that it’s part of the sporting director Kevin Thelwell’s role to anticipate such scenarios and be ready with a backup plan, regardless of current results.
