After recently setting a new transfer record by signing Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart for £69 million, Newcastle United may be ready to break that record once more. The club is reportedly targeting a 27-year-old Barcelona player as their next major signing. Their previous record was the £63 million spent on Alexander Isak, who has since moved to Liverpool in a £125 million deal. That sale has provided Newcastle with financial flexibility, helping them stay within PSR regulations and retain spending power for the January transfer window. Future moves could depend on their injury situation and continued progress in the Champions League.

Newcastle Linked with €90M Move for Barcelona’s Dani Olmo Amid Summer Transfer Plans

Spanish outlet E-Noticies has reported that Newcastle United are preparing a potential big-money move for Barcelona winger Dani Olmo, with a €90 million (£79 million) offer possibly on the table. The Magpies may carry over unspent funds from the January window into their summer budget, which could allow them to break their transfer record once again. Olmo is reportedly eager to leave the Nou Camp after growing frustrated with limited opportunities under new manager Hansi Flick, who has mostly used him as a substitute.

Newcastle’s Pursuit of Dani Olmo Seen as Ambitious but Questionable Move

While a potential move for Dani Olmo would be a major statement from Newcastle United, there are doubts about the logic behind spending £79 million on another left winger especially without offloading either Harvey Barnes or Anthony Gordon. At this stage, the transfer rumour seems more speculative than concrete. Olmo, who will be 28 by the next transfer window, would follow the recent £55 million signing of another 28-year-old, Yoane Wissa a deal many felt was overpriced. Although Olmo is considered a higher-quality player, the hefty fee still raises questions given his age.
