Nicolas Raskin has made it clear he intends to fight for his place at Rangers, even as he continues to be left out of the matchday squad. STV reports that the Belgian midfielder won’t be involved in Saturday’s Premiership clash against Hearts following discussions with head coach Russell Martin.
The 24-year-old, once a key figure for Rangers, has seen limited playing time under Martin, having already been left out of the Old Firm squad last month. Despite his strong performances last season, Raskin has struggled to break into the new manager’s plans, sparking speculation over his future at Ibrox.
Martin has dismissed any notion of a falling out between the two, though he has acknowledged “uncertainty” surrounding several players, including Raskin, following the club’s heavy 6–0 loss to Club Brugge. Fan frustration has grown over the midfielder’s exclusion from major games, and Raskin’s father even took to social media to criticise Martin’s decisions, particularly regarding the absence of key experienced players from last season’s European run.
Although the transfer window has closed in Scotland, and Raskin remains at the club, moves could still be possible in leagues where the window is still open. However, the player himself has ruled out a transfer.
Speaking during international duty with Belgium where he scored in a 6–0 win over Kazakhstan Raskin told Dutch outlet Voetbalkrant that while his situation at Rangers is “complicated,” he is committed to staying.
“I’ll return and work hard to earn my place back. It’s not entirely in my hands, but I want to be part of Belgium’s campaign this year,” he said. “I love Rangers. I’ve had great moments here and a strong connection with the fans. A transfer? No, that’s not something I want. I want to resolve this at the club.”
Following his return to Glasgow, Raskin met with Martin but still finds himself out of the squad. The manager is expected to face further questions about the player’s situation during his upcoming press conference on Friday.
