Newcastle United reportedly attempted to sign Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado during the summer transfer window but were unable to finalize a deal. The Magpies had made enquiries about bringing the highly-rated 21-year-old to bolster Eddie Howe’s midfield options.

Following a strong 2024/25 season finishing fifth in the Premier League and securing a Champions League spot through UEFA’s additional qualification places alongside their first major trophy in 70 years with the League Cup win, Newcastle’s appeal is at an all-time high.

Despite failing to land Casado this summer, the club is now said to be eyeing a potential move for the £87 million-rated talent in 2026.

Newcastle Made Enquiry for Marc Casado and Could Renew Interest in 2026

Newcastle United reportedly approached Barcelona over midfielder Marc Casado during the summer transfer window, according to TBR Football. Although a move didn’t materialize, the Magpies remain admirers of the 21-year-old and may revisit their interest in the 2026 window.

Newcastle had a challenging summer, struggling to secure early signings in key positions. Despite missing out on long-term targets like Marc Guehi and James Trafford, they still managed to bring in six new players, including Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey, Malick Thiaw, Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa, and Aaron Ramsdale.

However, the club also suffered major departures, notably Alexander Isak’s British-record move to Liverpool and Sean Longstaff’s transfer to Leeds. While Woltemade and Wissa were signed to cover Isak’s exit, Longstaff’s midfield role has yet to be fully replaced prompting the club’s interest in Casado as a potential squad option behind Tonali, Guimarães, and Joelinton.

Casado, who has a €100 million (£87 million) release clause, is not expected to be sold for that amount, but Newcastle could monitor his progress with an eye on a future deal. The young Spaniard has made 42 appearances for Barcelona, playing a key role in their domestic double last season. With Newcastle set to host Barcelona in the Champions League next week, the match could serve as an informal audition if Casado features at St. James’ Park.
