Rangers are reportedly interested in signing former academy graduate Kenny McLean before the transfer window closes, potentially bringing him back to Ibrox alongside Chermiti. According to Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Norwich City are eager to keep McLean as they push for Premier League promotion, but Rangers are exploring the possibility of luring the midfielder back to Scotland.
Rangers ‘Keen’ on Signing Kenny McLean
Rangers are showing strong interest in signing Kenny McLean to help stabilize their midfield after a disappointing start to the Scottish Premiership season, which has seen them draw all four opening matches, including a goalless draw against Celtic.
Despite recent ankle issues, McLean impressed in a deep-lying role during Norwich’s emphatic win over Blackburn on Saturday a performance that may have convinced Rangers to make a move. Their Europa League campaign, following a humiliating 9-1 aggregate loss to Club Brugge in the Champions League qualifiers, could give them the leverage needed to attract the Scotland international.
A lifelong Rangers supporter, McLean is said to be “dreaming” of a return to Ibrox. With just a day left in the transfer window, this could be his final opportunity to join his boyhood club. However, Norwich are determined to keep him as they push for promotion back to the Premier League after four years out.
McLean, once released by Rangers at age 16, built his career at St Mirren and Aberdeen before moving to Norwich, where he’s made 243 league appearances. With 50 Scotland caps and two goals, his leadership and experience could be crucial for Rangers as they aim for domestic or European silverware under manager Michael Beale, whose tenure has started poorly.
This summer, Rangers have brought in several experienced players like Max Aarons and Joe Rothwell, yet results have been underwhelming. The potential arrival of McLean along with striker Youssef Chermiti from Everton could provide the spark the team needs.
