Newcastle United have submitted an offer for Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi, according to Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Magpies have reportedly put forward a loan deal with an obligation to buy, aiming to secure the Italian international before Monday’s transfer deadline, with negotiations between the two clubs ongoing.

However, Di Marzio notes that Inter are unlikely to accept Newcastle’s initial bid, as they value Frattesi at €40m (£34m) and would prefer a permanent transfer before the window closes.

The terms of Newcastle’s proposed obligation to buy are said to include conditions that are not guaranteed, and Inter are seeking more solid terms in any potential loan deal.

Di Marzio adds that Newcastle are seriously exploring the possibility of bringing in Frattesi before the transfer deadline, though it remains uncertain whether Inter will consider their loan-to-buy offer.

As the deadline approaches, Newcastle are expected to stay active in the market, also aiming to sign another forward in addition to their record signing, Nick Woltemade.

Woltemade is seen as a replacement for Alexander Isak, who is pushing for a move to Liverpool, but Newcastle are also looking for a replacement for Callum Wilson, who left on a free transfer to West Ham earlier this summer. This has left Isak as their only recognized striker.

Davide Frattesi for Inter

However, with Isak refusing to play until his future is sorted, Newcastle are looking for more reinforcements up front, as well as potential midfield additions, with Frattesi being one of their key targets.

Frattesi joined Inter Milan in 2023 after a season-long loan from Sassuolo, and the move was made permanent last year. The 25-year-old made 47 appearances in all competitions during the 2024/25 season, scoring seven goals and assisting two as Inter finished second in Serie A.

Despite his strong performances last season, Frattesi has yet to feature for Inter in the 2025/26 campaign, having been left out of their 5-0 victory over Torino on the opening weekend of the Serie A season.
