Anfernee Simons’ future with the Boston Celtics is uncertain, with speculation swirling about whether he’ll stay or be traded. Currently, he’s part of the Celtics, but anything could happen as the season approaches.
An anonymous NBA executive, however, believes Simons could carve out a major role with Boston, even predicting he could end up leading the team in scoring during the 2025-26 season. The executive stated, “I bet he’s their leading scorer. Even with Jaylen \[Brown]. He’s going to have the ball a lot, and that guy can really score. The offense will have to adjust to him, and in the final year of his contract, he’s going to take his shot. As the kids say, he’s a bucket—he can really fill it up. And remember, he was averaging around 20 points in the West. What do you think he’ll do in the Eastern Conference, which is much less competitive? He’s going to score, and score big.”
Simons just finished his seventh season with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he played a pivotal role, averaging 19.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in 2024-25. Given that the Eastern Conference is considered less competitive than the West, there’s optimism that Simons could thrive even more with the Celtics.
While Simons could be a great fit for Boston, there’s still the possibility he could be traded before the season begins, with rumors circulating about his potential departure. At this point, it seems equally likely he’ll stay or go.
Wherever he ends up, the key points about Simons’ scoring ability remain true, and he could be primed for a standout season.
