Rangers are reportedly in discussions with Everton to sign young striker Youssef Chermiti on loan, as Russell Martin looks to strengthen his struggling attack after a poor start to the season.
The Ibrox side have yet to win a Scottish Premiership game under Martin, drawing all three so far, and were knocked out of the Champions League in devastating fashion after a 9-1 aggregate defeat to Club Brugge. The heavy 6-0 second-leg loss has only increased pressure on the former Southampton boss, who has already overseen significant squad changes this summer.
According to The Times journalist Paul Joyce, Chermiti has emerged as the latest target. The 21-year-old, who joined Everton from Sporting Lisbon in 2023, has struggled for minutes at Goodison Park making 24 senior appearances, mostly from the bench, without scoring. Despite that, he showed promise in Portugal with three goals in 16 games for Sporting during the 2022/23 campaign and has a strong record at youth international level.
If the move goes through, Chermiti would become Rangers’ 12th signing of the summer, joining fellow Premier League loanees Max Aarons, Mikey Moore, Nasser Djiga and Jayden Meghoma, as well as permanent arrivals Joe Rothwell, Lyall Cameron, Oscar Cortes, Oliver Antman and others.
With Rangers potentially facing a nine-point gap to Celtic if they lose the upcoming Old Firm derby, Chermiti would be expected to make an immediate impact should he move north of the border.
