The Rangers wouldn’t be making a bad move by bringing someone like Jermain Defoe back to Ibrox. Hamza Igamane’s outburst during the William Hill Premiership match against St Mirren on August 24 has cast doubt over his future with the club after he refused to come on as a substitute, citing an injury. If the Moroccan international does leave during this transfer window, the Gers will definitely need to find a replacement. LOSC Lille have reopened talks for Igamane, and his departure before the September 1 deadline seems likely but Rangers should ensure they have reinforcements in place before that happens.

Kris Boyd believes Rangers should target Jamie Vardy to strengthen their attack this summer. The former Scotland international expressed surprise that neither Rangers nor Celtic have moved to sign the ex-Leicester City striker. Boyd compared the 38-year-old to Defoe, who enjoyed three successful seasons at Ibrox and helped the club secure the William Hill Premiership title.

Speaking on Go Ballistic on August 25, Boyd said: “The Vardy situation is interesting. He’s been linked to both clubs, but I don’t understand why neither has signed him. He’s a proven goal-scorer at a stage in his career where he needs regular playing time. He’ll give everything to succeed and won’t want to be another English player who comes here late in their career and fails. He’ll believe he can score 20 to 25 goals, much like Defoe.”
