Rangers loanee Max Aarons has come under fire for his performances since joining from Bournemouth, with BBC Sport’s Kenny Macintyre claiming the defender has looked “out of his depth” in every appearance so far.

The 25-year-old right-back signed on loan earlier this summer and has featured heavily in the Scottish Premiership, League Cup, and European qualifiers. However, results under new boss Russell Martin have been poor, with Rangers still searching for a first league win.

Aarons’ display in the 3-1 defeat to Club Brugge drew particular criticism, though teammate Nasser Djiga bore the brunt after a costly early mistake earned him scathing reviews and a rating of just 2/10 from one outlet.

Speaking on the BBC, Macintyre said: “Joe Rothwell for me has looked knackered in every game. Max Aarons for me in every game has looked out of his depth. I know it’s early days but it’s a huge concern.”

Martin is attempting to introduce the possession-based style that brought him success with Swansea and Southampton in the Championship, but early signs suggest it may take time to adapt at Ibrox. Rangers now face St Mirren in the league before a crucial Champions League qualifier second leg against Brugge.
