Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United has caused division within the dressing room after the striker issued a fiery statement demanding a move to Liverpool. The Swedish international has pushed to leave all summer and recently accused the club of breaking promises, saying his trust had been lost and that he no longer saw a future at St James’ Park.
According to Mail Online, while team spirit remains strong overall, the squad is split on Isak’s stance, with some backing him but others firmly against his approach. The 25-year-old has yet to rejoin training and refused to take part in the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.
Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes appeared to respond indirectly, posting an image of himself proudly wearing a Newcastle shirt shortly after Isak’s statement went live. Speaking after the opening-day draw with Aston Villa, the Brazilian stressed that the group’s unity remained intact: “It has been difficult, but we’re still together. Things like this can test you, but in the end they can make you stronger.”
Isak, under contract for another three years, suggested he has no intention of playing for the club again. He wrote: “Promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship cannot continue.”
Newcastle quickly hit back with a statement, reiterating that no agreement was ever made allowing him to leave this summer. The club insisted that while they respect players’ views, Isak remains under contract and will be welcomed back when ready.
Liverpool, meanwhile, remain determined to test Newcastle’s resolve and are reportedly preparing a British-record bid to secure the forward before the transfer window closes.
