Newcastle United are on the verge of agreeing a deal to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, with a transfer potentially completed by the end of the week, according to Africa Foot.
The Magpies have been actively searching for a new forward this summer amid uncertainty over Alexander Isak’s future. Liverpool remain interested in the Swedish international, with GIVEMESPORT’s Ben Jacobs reporting that Isak is awaiting contact from the Reds, who are prepared to submit another bid after having a £110m offer turned down.
Should Isak leave, Newcastle will want a replacement secured beforehand, and Wissa has emerged as a prime candidate. Brentford, however, are also seeking to sign a new striker before sanctioning his departure, with reports indicating they are close to landing Arnaud Kalimuendo.
Wissa labelled “extraordinary” by Breaking The Lines enjoyed a standout 2024/25 season and could either partner Isak in attack or replace him entirely, depending on the Swede’s fate. His signing would follow shortly after Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey is also nearing a move to St James’ Park.
After a quiet start to the summer window, Newcastle have so far added Aaron Ramsdale and Anthony Elanga, but momentum is building as the Premier League season approaches. Wissa’s arrival would bring additional firepower to Eddie Howe’s squad and could play a decisive role in shaping Isak’s future.
The Magpies open their campaign away to Aston Villa on Saturday, then host Liverpool before travelling to newly promoted Leeds United to round out August.
