Rangers may be set to offer James Tavernier a new deal that could see him finish his career at Ibrox.
The 33-year-old, who has spent 10 years with the club, still has a year remaining on his current contract. While Russell Martin has counted on him early this season, Tavernier was left out of the starting XI against Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Champions League on 5 August.
With Max Aarons returning to Bournemouth at the end of his loan, the club faces a big decision over their captain’s future. According to Scottish journalist Fraser Wilson, Tavernier appears happy at Rangers, is well-respected in the dressing room, and could remain beyond next summer.
“I wouldn’t rule out Tavernier staying past next season and seeing out his career here,” Wilson said on Game On (8 August). “He enjoys it, he’s comfortable. While opinions are split among fans, that’s not the case in the dressing room.”
