Charles Bassey may have modest career stats never averaging more than 5.7 points per game in the NBA but he’s confident his performance in the Boston Celtics’ 2025 Summer League campaign has earned him a real shot at an NBA contract.
With training camps just a month away, Boston still has an open roster spot following the July release of former G-League MVP JD Davison. Bassey, despite strong interest from Serbian powerhouse Partizan Belgrade, is reportedly focused on staying in the NBA and hopes to suit up for the Celtics next season, according to Noa Dalzell of SB Nation.
Though he joined Boston’s Summer League squad late, Bassey was arguably the most effective player on the team. While draft picks Jordan Walsh and Baylor Scheierman drew much of the spotlight, Bassey quietly dominated, averaging 15.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in just 20.3 minutes per game. Often coming off the bench behind rookie Amari Williams, Bassey still proved to be the team’s most impactful player.
The 23-year-old began his NBA journey with the Philadelphia 76ers before spending the last three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. He’s seen limited playing time, buried behind superstars like Joel Embiid and Victor Wembanyama. However, a move to Boston could present his best chance yet to carve out a meaningful role in an NBA rotation.
