Rangers officially announced the loan signing of Mikey Moore from Tottenham on Friday, 1 August, capping off a successful week for the club.
The deal was confirmed shortly after Rangers secured a spot in the next round of Champions League qualifiers, following a 1-1 draw against Panathinaikos in Athens on Wednesday, 30 July. With their Premiership opener against Motherwell set for Saturday, 2 August, Moore’s arrival has added to the growing optimism under new manager Russell Martin.
The 17-year-old winger is considered one of the top talents to emerge from Spurs’ academy in recent years, having already broken into the first team in North London. His signing is seen as a major coup for Rangers, especially after fending off interest from clubs in the English Championship.
Rangers announced Moore’s arrival via Instagram, and former Ibrox striker Jermain Defoe responded emotionally, commenting:
“Emotional seeing this, so happy for you, bro.
WATP.”
Defoe, who scored 25 goals during his time with Rangers, clearly sees big potential in the young winger’s move to Govan.
