Highly regarded Tottenham youngster Mikey Moore is on the verge of sealing a loan switch to Rangers.

The 17-year-old is set to undergo a medical at Ibrox ahead of a proposed season long deal. His arrival would add to Rangers’ busy summer recruitment and provide manager Russell Martin with another exciting option in attack. While the move is generating plenty of optimism, it doesn’t come without one obvious drawback—likely referencing Moore’s youth and lack of top-level experience.

Ferguson Calls Mikey Moore Deal ‘Strange’ but Sees Potential Upside

Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has shared mixed feelings about Mikey Moore’s potential loan move to Ibrox from Tottenham. Speaking to Ibrox News, Ferguson admitted he rates the 17-year-old highly but sees the transfer as a bit unusual.

“It’s a strange one,” he said. “He’s had a few games for Spurs, and while there’s no question he’s talented, I’d prefer to see young Rangers players stepping up. Still, if he settles in which is the key he’ll be a great addition.”

Ferguson’s main concern is how well Moore will adjust to life at Rangers and living in a new city, noting that even seasoned professionals have struggled in similar situations. However, he added that Moore’s youth might work in his favor, as he’ll be focused on simply playing football.

Despite those reservations, Ferguson is excited by the young attacker’s reported versatility. “Anyone who’s played for Tottenham has clear talent,” he added. “I’d just prefer we had a homegrown option, but this move probably shows that there’s no one currently in the academy close to breaking through.”

Loan Deal Seen as Smart Move for Both Sides

While Ferguson highlights the importance of promoting from within, the reality of modern football means clubs now aggressively recruit young talent before they fully establish themselves. With no clear internal candidate ready to make the leap, Rangers are looking outside to strengthen.

Moore, who made his first-team debut for Tottenham in May 2024 and has made 21 appearances with one goal, has shown promise but is still developing. Manager Russell Martin likely sees a chance to give Moore valuable minutes, making the deal beneficial for all involved.

Rangers manager Russell Martin smiles.

If the loan goes through, it could be a smart, short-term fix for Rangers while giving Moore the game time he needs to grow potentially a win-win situation for both club and player.
