Rangers have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Finnish winger Oliver Antman from Go Ahead Eagles, as they aim to bolster their right flank this summer. Although Jesurun Rak-Sakyi of Crystal Palace had been linked with a move, it now appears Antman will become Russell Martin’s ninth addition as he builds a squad to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title.

Meanwhile, preparations continue for Rangers’ UEFA Champions League second qualifying round second leg against Panathinaikos, where they hold a 2-0 advantage. Despite the imminent deal, Antman will not feature in the tie due to UEFA’s registration rules, which require players to be signed before a round begins.

The Daily Record (27 July) reports that the transfer could be finalized within 24 to 48 hours. Should that happen, Antman is expected to make his debut this weekend when Rangers begin their domestic season away to Motherwell.

The Gers have actively sought wingers to add more creativity out wide, aiming to improve service to their forwards. Antman brings exactly that, having racked up an impressive 17 assists in all competitions last season.

2023/24 Stats:

  • Eredivisie – 32 appearances, 6 goals, 15 assists
  • KNVB Beker – 4 appearances, 1 assist
  • Superliga – 3 appearances, 1 goal, 1 assist

With a strong creative record, Antman could prove to be a valuable asset in Scotland. The step up from the Eredivisie to the Scottish Premiership is not expected to be a major hurdle, and he could quickly become a standout figure in Rangers’ pursuit of domestic glory.
