Former Boston Celtics forward Marcus Morris Sr. was arrested over the weekend at a Florida airport on felony fraud charges, according to reports. The 13-year NBA veteran was taken into custody at a Broward County airport after authorities accused him of issuing a check with insufficient funds to a Las Vegas casino related to unpaid gambling debts. He was detained without bond after being arrested on an outstanding warrant while waiting to board a flight.

Morris, 35, last played for both the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2023–2024 season. He previously spent two seasons with the Celtics from 2017 to 2019 and began his NBA career with the Houston Rockets in 2011. Over his 13-year tenure, he also suited up for four other NBA teams.

In response to the arrest, Morris’s agent, Yony Noy, addressed the situation on social media, disputing the nature of the charges. He stated the incident stemmed from an unpaid casino marker rather than any attempt at fraud. “There is zero fraud here,” Noy said. “This is related to an outstanding casino marker apparently, anything over $1,200 can result in a warrant. Absolute insanity!”

Morris’s twin brother, Markieff Morris, also released a statement defending him.

Recently, Morris had shifted into a broadcasting role as a guest analyst for ESPN and Yahoo Sports. It is currently unknown whether he plans to return to the NBA in the upcoming season.
