With Callum Wilson leaving Newcastle United after five years and 49 goals in 130 appearances, the club now has room to bring in a new forward. Wilson’s time at Tyneside was plagued by injuries, but he leaves with fond memories and a Carabao Cup winner’s medal.

As Newcastle prepares for European competition next season, manager Eddie Howe is looking to strengthen the squad’s attack. Deals for James Trafford and Anthony Elanga appear close, and another major addition could follow.

According to reports, Newcastle are in advanced discussions to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who recently left Everton. Howe has long admired the English striker, though competition from Manchester United could complicate the move.

Despite scoring just 11 goals since the start of the 2023/24 season, Calvert-Lewin could thrive at St James’ Park, especially with Elanga providing service. Elanga impressed with 12 assists for Nottingham Forest last season, creating nine big chances and ranking among the Premier League’s best for assists and crossing ability.

Pairing the two could be a game-changer. Calvert-Lewin has shown in past seasons such as scoring 21 goals in 2020/21 that he can be elite when healthy. Even Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp once praised him, noting his combination of physicality, technical ability, and goal-scoring instincts.

If Calvert-Lewin can stay fit, signing him on a free transfer could be a smart move for Newcastle. Alongside Elanga, he might rediscover the form that once made him one of England’s top strikers making Newcastle’s frontline much more dangerous heading into the new season.
