PSV Boss Admits Uncertainty Over Luuk de Jong Amid Rangers Interest
PSV Eindhoven manager Peter Bosz has confirmed that striker Luuk de Jong remains undecided about his next club, despite reported approaches from Rangers. The 34‑year‑old, whose contract with the Dutch champions expired this summer, did not feature in PSV’s first day of pre‑season training, even though the club offered him a new deal and full use of their facilities.
Bosz admitted he’s in the dark regarding de Jong’s plans, saying:
“Luuk hasn’t told me what he’ll do yet. I spoke to him recently and I’m still hopeful he’ll stay. He hasn’t committed either way.”
Previously linked with both Rangers and Besiktas, de Jong is free to explore his options, and Bosz acknowledged the striker’s silence makes PSV consider alternatives:
“At some point, the club may need to look elsewhere if he decides not to return. But as of now, he simply doesn’t know.”
Panathinaikos Lead Race for Ex‑Dundee Defender Antonio Portales
Meanwhile, Rangers could face former Dundee centre‑back Antonio Portales in Champions League qualifiers if Panathinaikos complete a deal for the Mexican international. Portales, 29, was released by Dundee this summer after 55 appearances and six goals, and has attracted interest from Greek side Panathinaikos, French club Metz, and Turkish outfits Göztepe and Kocaelispor. Should Panathinaikos prevail, Rangers would meet Portales in the second qualifying round, with the return leg scheduled in Athens.
